Manila, Philippines - The Department of Energy (DOE) has reiterated its commitment to expanding the country’s clean energy portfolio, emphasizing that new competitive re-bids for renewable power projects will be a central priority in 2026.
In a recent briefing, the DOE said the planned re-bidding rounds aim to attract more investments in solar, wind, hydro, and other renewable technologies, while ensuring lower electricity costs and a more reliable power supply. Officials noted that re-bids allow the government to take advantage of falling technology costs and improved project efficiencies.
“The re-bidding process strengthens transparency and competition, which ultimately benefits consumers and supports our long-term energy security goals,” the DOE said. The department added that lessons learned from previous bidding rounds will be used to streamline procedures and accelerate project implementation.
The DOE also highlighted that the 2026 re-bids are aligned with national climate and sustainability targets, including emissions reduction commitments and the gradual transition away from fossil fuels. Priority will be given to projects that demonstrate strong grid integration, energy storage capabilities, and community benefits.
Industry stakeholders welcomed the announcement, saying clearer timelines and consistent policy signals could boost investor confidence. Renewable energy developers have long pushed for predictable bidding schedules to better plan financing and construction.
Further details on capacity targets, bidding schedules, and eligibility requirements are expected to be released closer to 2026, as the DOE consults with regulators, utilities, and private sector partners.
