Dnipro, Ukraine— A Russian attack hit Dnipro railway station on October 31, 2026, killing 13 civilians and injuring 10 others, as missiles struck platforms packed with morning travelers.
The strike came at 8:42 a.m., when the station was busy. Two commuter trains were boarding. A long-distance train to Kyiv was on platform 2. Witnesses said they heard a whistle, then a blast that shattered the glass roof. A second impact hit near the ticket hall. Smoke filled the concourse.
The regional governor confirmed 13 dead and 10 injured by early afternoon. He said most victims were civilians waiting on platforms. He said children were among the injured. He said the toll could rise because some were still trapped under collapsed steel and concrete.
The railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, said the station building took a direct hit. Tracks 1 and 2 were destroyed. Overhead wires came down. A locomotive was damaged. All departures from Dnipro were suspended. Trains were rerouted via Kamianske. Thousands were stranded.
Rescue teams worked with cranes and cutting tools. They lifted roof beams off a waiting room where people had sheltered. One woman was pulled out alive after two hours. She was covered in dust, holding her bag. Paramedics carried bodies out on stretchers, covered with blankets.
The Ukrainian Air Force said the attack involved ballistic missiles. It said air defenses had engaged but one missile got through. Debris was collected for analysis. The city’s air raid siren had sounded eight minutes before impact. Many people did not have time to reach shelters.
Dnipro is a major rail hub for eastern Ukraine. It moves civilians, wounded soldiers and freight. It has been hit before, but never this badly during operating hours. Railway workers said they have sandbagged the station and taped windows for two years. It was not enough.
The UN Office in Ukraine condemned the attack, calling railway stations civilian infrastructure. It said attacks on transport hubs endanger civilians fleeing war. The city mayor said blood donation points were opened. Lines formed within an hour.
By evening, fires were out but the station was closed. Tracks were still smoking. Investigators photographed craters on platform 3. Trains were not running. Families waited outside the cordon, asking for names.
