Devastating Inferno: Massive Fire Engulfs Nagaon’s Jyoti Flour Mill, Wiping Out Goods Worth Lakhs

NAGAON, ASSAM — A destructive inferno tore through the prominent Jyoti Flour Mill in Haibargaon, Nagaon, causing panic across the commercial hub as property and raw inventory worth lakhs of rupees were reduced to ashes.

The disaster struck during the early hours, sparking an immediate, multi-agency emergency response to contain the raging blaze before it could engulf neighboring commercial establishments.

According to local reports and eyewitness statements, the fire originated in the facility's primary storage warehouse. Within minutes, combustible materials and stored grain stocks provided rapid fuel, transforming localized sparks into an overwhelming wall of fire.

Thick plumes of dark smoke billowed high above the Haibargaon sky, alerting nearby residents and business owners who immediately raised the alarm.

"The flames spread with frightening speed. Before anyone could react, the entire back section of the mill was engulfed," reported a local worker in the vicinity.

Upon receiving emergency calls, teams of firefighters and emergency personnel rushed to the scene. Fire tenders were deployed immediately, launching an intensive operation to douse the inferno.

Fire crews faced significant challenges containing the fire due to the densely packed industrial layout and high heat levels inside the warehouse. Firefighters worked tirelessly for hours, directing high-pressure water jets into the core of the blaze to prevent it from spreading to adjacent go downs and residential structures.

While official assessments are currently underway, preliminary estimates indicate that the destruction of finished flour stock, raw wheat shipments, processing machinery, and building infrastructure will run into lakhs of rupees.

Fortunately, initial reports confirm no immediate human casualties or serious injuries, as prompt evacuations were carried out as soon as the danger was recognized.

Authorities have opened an investigation to determine the exact origin of the blaze. While electrical short-circuiting remains a suspected cause in industrial incidents of this scale, law enforcement and forensic teams will conduct a thorough site inspection once the cooling operations are complete.

Local business associations have expressed deep concern over the disaster, urging district administration officials to review fire safety protocols across industrial units in the area to prevent similar catastrophes in the future.
