Denmark is training parish priests to support military funerals in the event of a major European war. Military chaplain Thomas H. Beck said planners are considering scenarios in which 10 to 20 Danish soldiers could die on the worst days. Denmark has about 95 military chaplains and 2,000 parish priests, prompting a new training program covering funeral ceremonies, military traditions and support for families. Officials stress that the numbers are planning estimates, not an official forecast of expected casualties abroad.
