Delpan Bridge Chaos: Woman Injured in Violent Three-Vehicle Pileup in Manila

MANILA, Philippines — A fast-moving multi-vehicle collision caused massive gridlock and left a female commuter injured on Sunday, June 21, 2026 after three vehicles violently slammed into each other along the busy stretch of Delpan Bridge in Tondo, Manila.

The identity of the injured woman has not been fully disclosed, but emergency responders confirmed she was an innocent bystander caught in the secondary impact of the pileup.

According to initial reports from the Manila Police District (MPD) Traffic Enforcement Unit, the accident occurred during a high-traffic window on the bridge. Witnesses stated that a fast-moving utility vehicle suddenly lost control while descending the bridge's span, aggressively rear-ending a private sedan positioned directly in front of it.

The force of the initial crash created a violent chain reaction, propelling the sedan forward into a third public transport vehicle. Amid the twisting metal and shattering glass, a woman standing near the path of the vehicles was struck by flying debris and shifting wreckage.

Traffic on the vital thoroughfare connecting Manila’s port area to northern districts ground to a complete standstill as wreckage blocked multiple arterial lanes.

Manila disaster risk reduction and management personnel, alongside civic volunteer medic groups, arrived at the scene within minutes to manage the casualties.

The injured woman, who sustained lacerations and heavy bruising across her lower extremities, was stabilized on-site by paramedics. She was subsequently transferred to a nearby medical facility for comprehensive evaluation and treatment. Fortunately, physicians indicated that her injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

The drivers of the three involved vehicles escaped the pileup with minor scrapes and were detained at the scene by responding traffic officers for formal questioning.

MPD traffic investigators are currently processing the scene to establish legal liability and piece together the timeline of the pileup.

The driver of the primary instigating vehicle claimed that a sudden loss of braking capability made it impossible to slow down during the descent. Mechanical investigators have impounded the vehicle to verify if a catastrophic brake failure occurred or if human error and speeding were the primary catalysts behind the Delpan Bridge chaos.
