ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA — A large-scale drone attack struck St. Petersburg and the surrounding Leningrad region, resulting in one fatality and five injuries. The overnight barrage ignited powerful blazes at critical industrial and energy facilities, including the St. Petersburg oil terminal, a regional oil depot, and major logistics warehouses.
St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov confirmed that the municipality came under a massive unmanned aerial vehicle assault, which struck multiple city districts and triggered intense emergency responses.
The coordinated strikes targeted vital infrastructure essential to regional fuel transshipment and supply chains. Fires broke out at the primary St. Petersburg oil terminal and the Ruchyi fuel depot, sending thick plumes of smoke into the morning sky. Additionally, a major logistics hub belonging to the e-commerce marketplace Ozon caught fire following a direct impact, forcing swift evacuations.
The assault also impacted digital and electrical networks, affecting a data center operated by Russian internet company VK in the Leningrad region and knocking out power supplies for roughly 20,000 residents due to substation damage.
Emergency services, firefighters, and municipal crews rushed to the various impact zones across the city districts to contain the spreading flames and provide medical assistance to the wounded. Regional authorities reported structural damage to several residential buildings and vehicles from falling drone debris, while transport operations—including flights at Pulkovo International Airport—faced temporary restrictions.
Russian defense officials stated that air defense units intercepted a large volume of drones overnight, while local authorities continue damage assessments and recovery efforts across the affected sectors.
As specialized cleanup crews and municipal engineers work around the clock to restore normalcy, federal investigators have initiated a comprehensive review of regional early-warning protocols and air defense response vectors. Local officials emphasized that community resilience and swift inter-agency cooperation remain vital as the city navigates the aftermath of one of its most disruptive industrial security challenges.
