SLOVIANSK, Ukraine — A devastating Russian airstrike tore through the eastern Ukrainian city of Sloviansk on Friday, July 24, 2026 killing at least five civilians and leaving nine others wounded. According to VadymFilashkin, the Head of the Donetsk Oblast Military Administration, and regional prosecutors, Russian forces unleashed heavy aerial bombs directly onto urban areas of the city.

Striking with catastrophic force, the munitions generated powerful blast waves that ripped through neighboring sectors. Initial assessments from local authorities confirmed widespread destruction to civilian infrastructure, including severe structural damage to at least 10 private homes. The explosions also heavily compromised a local business premises and damaged the building housing the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Latvia.

Emergency services deployed heavy machinery to secure the affected streets, where shattered glass, collapsed masonry, and cratered roads lined the impact zone.

First responders arrived to find multiple sites engulfed in smoke. While early assessments from the prosecutor’s office initially placed the death toll at four, updated figures released shortly after by the Military Administration confirmed that the fatality count had risen to five.
