KYIV — Russian forces launched an extensive overnight barrage of missiles and drones across Ukraine, killing at least eight people and inflicting severe damage on residential buildings, industrial facilities, and critical infrastructure. Ukrainian officials reported strikes across multiple regions, including the capital Kyiv, marking another intense wave of aerial bombardment targeting civil and energy networks.
The nationwide strike wave involved 130 attack drones, 48 cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles fired from Russian territory. Air defense units intercepted 161 incoming targets across northern, central, and eastern regions. However, several projectiles penetrated defenses, impacting urban centers and industrial zones.
In Kyiv, two fatalities were confirmed following strikes on residential structures. Four people were killed in the northern city of Pryluki, while two others died in the central Poltava region as emergency crews worked to extinguish fires and clear collapsed rubble.
Emergency responders deployed across several regions to assess damage and rescue civilians trapped under debris. In the Kyiv capital region, officials confirmed two deaths alongside widespread damage to residential buildings and local infrastructure. The assault hit northern and central regions particularly hard, with four people killed in Pryluki and two fatalities reported in Kremenchuk, Poltava region, where industrial and storage facilities caught fire.
Furthermore, critical infrastructure sustained severe impacts beyond the capital, with production facilities in the Obukhiv district and key port infrastructure in Odesa suffering structural damage during the coordinated strikes.
Ukrainian officials reiterated calls for reinforced air defense systems from international partners, warning that persistent long-range strikes aim to paralyze energy and industrial networks ahead of seasonal shifts. Human rights monitors and emergency services continue sweeping affected sites for unexploded ordnance and working to restore power grid stability.
In light of the escalating strikes, European energy ministers convened an emergency briefing to assess the threat to regional energy stability ahead of the winter months. International allies pledged to expedite the delivery of additional interceptor missiles and repair equipment, while Ukrainian power grid operators implemented rolling precautionary blackouts across vulnerable municipalities to prevent systemic grid failure under the continued bombardment.
