Caracas, Venezuela—Two men were shot and killed Friday morning outside a commercial bank branch in the Sabana Grande district during an attempted armed robbery. The incident occurred around 10:15 a.m. as the victims exited the institution carrying a courier bag toward a parked motorcycle. Two assailants on a second vehicle intercepted them at close range on the sidewalk.
A violent struggle broke out when the victims resisted handing over the cash deposit. One attacker pulled a semi-automatic handgun and discharged multiple rounds at point-blank range, striking both men in the chest before seizing the bag.
Security guards stationed inside the bank building locked down the glass doors immediately as gunfire echoed along the pedestrian avenue. Bystanders ducked behind concrete pillars and street vendor stalls until the attackers sped away toward the motorway connection.
Police patrols from the Scientific, Penal, and Criminal Investigation Corps arrived within ten minutes to secure the area. Paramedics examined both victims at the scene, confirming both had succumbed to mortal gunshot wounds prior to medical intervention.
Detectives established a wide perimeter, gathering shell casings and pulling security camera recordings from surrounding businesses. Preliminary reports indicate the suspects may have tracked the victims from inside the bank prior to the transaction.
Forensic teams spent over two hours documenting the crime scene and processing the victims' vehicle for fingerprints. District officers set up emergency road checks along primary routes heading toward eastern neighborhoods to intercept the suspects.
Local business owners in Sabana Grande voiced concerns regarding a visible surge in opportunistic street crime during peak operating hours. Commercial activity across the immediate block remained suspended for the rest of the day.
Investigators have not released the names of the victims pending notification of immediate family members. No arrests have been made as the search for the gunmen continues.
