Danish Pupils to Orally Defend Essays to Combat AI Cheating

Danish education authorities are introducing a new approach to assessment, requiring pupils to orally defend their essay answers. The change is designed to counter the growing use of AI tools to produce written work that students may not understand or have not created themselves. Under the plan, teachers will question students about their topics, reasoning, and sources during an in-person oral component. The goal is to make it harder to submit AI-generated text without being able to explain it clearly.
