Criminal Syndicates in Mexico Now Placing Bounties on U.S. Federal Agents — Up to $50,000 for Hits

Federal authorities say that trans-national criminal organisations in Mexico have begun offering thousands of dollars for targeted attacks on U.S. law-enforcement personnel, escalating to as much as $50,000 for assassinating high-ranking officials. According to an official DHS intelligence bulletin, the payouts follow a structured tier: around $2,000 for gathering intelligence or “doxxing” agents (including photos and family info); between $5,000 and $10,000 for kidnapping or non-lethal assaults on agents of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP); and up to $50,000 for the assassination of senior officials. The bulletin identifies U.S. cities such as Chicago (particularly neighbourhoods like Pilsen and Little Village) as hotspots where gang-affiliated spotters are deploying rooftops for surveillance of federal agents. The DHS accuses U.S.-based gangs of coordinating with Mexican organised-crime networks to “monitor, harass and assassinate federal agents,” warning that agents are now facing ambushes, drone surveillance and death threats. Critics, including Mexico’s government, have expressed scepticism over the claims, stating they have not received independent verification of the cartel-bounty allegations. The implications are severe: if verified, this marks a sharp escalation in the threat environment for federal agents operating inside the U.S. and raises questions about the reach of Mexican criminal organisations and their willingness to target U.S. personnel directly. The DHS says the message is clear: “We will not back down from these threats.”
