Costa Rican President Laura Fernández said U.S. agencies already carry out operations in the country, describing them as part of existing security cooperation. In a Fox News interview, she cited protocols with the Drug Enforcement Administration and FBI, along with joint maritime patrols and efforts against organized crime. Fernández did not specify where operations occur, their scale or how many U.S. personnel are involved. Her comments go beyond earlier remarks about hypothetical U.S. ground operations, which she said would require approval from Costa Rica’s Legislative Assembly.
