The Singapore-flagged container ship GFS Pride sank on Wednesday after being damaged and catching fire while transiting the Strait of Hormuz. All 21 crew members were evacuated safely, Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority said. The Antigua and Barbuda-flagged bulk carrier Cape Dao also sank near the strait after a projectile struck it in September; one crew member was killed. The incidents came amid a sharp rise in attacks on commercial shipping. Iran said the GFS Pride hit a naval mine while taking an unauthorized route, while maritime officials reported projectile strikes.
