Construction Tragedy: Two Workers Killed After Scaffolding Collapses at New Cairo Site Today

New Cairo, Egypt—Two construction workers died today after a section of scaffolding collapsed at a development site in New Cairo. The metal structure fell from a significant height, trapping both men beneath the wreckage.

Site supervisors reported hearing a metallic groan before the entire system gave way. Workers in the vicinity rushed to the spot to clear the debris by hand. Emergency responders arrived within minutes but could not reach the victims in time.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics confirmed the trauma was too severe to allow for any life-saving intervention. Their bodies have been moved to a public morgue while family members are contacted.

Police have locked down the construction site to preserve the evidence. Investigators are currently inspecting the fallen scaffolding for signs of structural weakness or improper assembly. The project manager is scheduled to give a statement to the authorities by tomorrow.

Labor inspectors are also reviewing the site’s safety compliance logs. Initial questions involve the maintenance of the equipment and whether the workers were using required safety harnesses. The site remains closed while the inspection team carries out their work.

This is the latest in a series of safety incidents involving high-rise construction in the New Cairo area. Local unions are demanding a full audit of all active sites in the sector. The government has yet to release a comment regarding potential new safety mandates.

The collapse has halted all work on this specific building project indefinitely. Other employees at the site are currently being sent home. The atmosphere at the project is tense as everyone awaits the preliminary findings from the police investigation.

The area is marked off with caution tape and remains under police guard. Engineers are arriving to assess the remaining parts of the building’s exterior. The case is still open, and officials say more details will follow after the forensic inspection is complete.
