Joseph Kabila has launched the Front pour la Refondation de la Nation (FRN), a new political-military coalition intended to replace the AFC-M23 alliance fighting government forces in eastern Congo. Kabila will lead the group, with rebel leaders Corneille Nangaa, Bertrand Bisimwa, Freddy Kaniki and Sultani Makenga serving as deputies, adviser Claude Ibalanky announced. Congolese authorities have accused Kabila of backing the insurgency, allegations he previously denied. His move signals a more direct involvement in the conflict and could further complicate efforts to reach peace.
