Commuter Delays in Giza: Passenger Train Grazing Incident Causes Eight Minor Injuries Near Railway Station

Giza, Egypt—Commuters scrambled for safety on Thursday morning as two passenger carriages made heavy contact just outside the central terminal. The unexpected side-swipe occurred as a regional service maneuvered through a heavily congested switch point near the Giza railway station. The glancing impact shattered windows on the outer flanks and threw standing passengers against interior railings.

Panic erupted inside the packed carriages as the screech of grinding metal echoed across the rail yards. Passengers forced open emergency doors to jump onto the ballast tracks, disrupting morning travel schedules across the line. Railway police rushed to secure the perimeter and prevent unauthorized individuals from crossing active tracks.

Medical teams boarded the stationary train cars to treat individuals suffering from shock, cuts, and minor bruising. Paramedics confirmed that eight passengers sustained minor injuries requiring on-site first aid or brief outpatient evaluations. No severe trauma or critical casualties were reported from the collision.

"We felt a massive shudder, and then the windows on the left side just blew inward," said a daily commuter who was seated in the second carriage. "People started screaming that we had derailed. Everyone rushed toward the opposite doors."

Transport Ministry inspectors boarded the damaged rolling stock to gather technical data regarding the signaling failure. Initial operational reviews point toward a clearance miscalculation during track switching operations. Railway authorities managed to clear the damaged cars from the main line by midday, slowly restoring standard service timetables.

Maintenance crews remain on site examining switch mechanisms and track alignment parameters. Transport officials announced that an independent technical committee will investigate the root cause of the operational error. Commuter services are currently experiencing residual delays as normal scheduling resumes.
