A Turkish-operated cargo vessel carrying Ukrainian corn sank in Romania’s exclusive economic zone on October 5, after what Ukraine called a Russian drone attack. Two crew members died and eleven were rescued, according to Romanian authorities. The ship, Royad Mammadov, had departed the Ukrainian port of Izmail for Ravenna, Italy. Romania said it was investigating the cause and had not attributed responsibility. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged protection for civilian shipping as concerns grew over Black Sea grain routes and risks.
