Markets often move on sentiment, but sometimes a single forecast can ripple through the digital landscape like a signal flare. Citigroup has raised its price targets for the two largest cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin and Ethereum, pointing to robust institutional interest and the accelerating flow of capital into exchange-traded funds.
According to the bank’s new projections, Bitcoin could reach $132,000 by the end of this year and $181,000 within the next 12 months. Ethereum, meanwhile, is forecast to climb to $4,500 by year-end and $5,400 over the same period.
Citi analysts described Bitcoin as “digital gold,” highlighting its scale and the steady inflows into recently launched ETFs. The comparison underscores Bitcoin’s appeal as a store of value amid global economic uncertainty.
Ethereum, though included in the bullish outlook, carries a note of caution. Analysts pointed to its more complex use cases — spanning smart contracts, decentralized applications, and tokenized assets — which make its trajectory harder to predict. While demand for Ethereum remains, its performance may hinge on broader adoption of blockchain-based utilities.
The revised targets arrive as institutional players expand their presence in the crypto market, further blurring the lines between traditional finance and digital assets. For investors, Citi’s optimism signals not only confidence in the sector’s growth but also the growing mainstream embrace of an industry once considered fringe.
