Chino Hills Trunk Execution Ends in Deadly Deputy-Involved Shooting

CHINO HILLS, California — A horrifying kidnapping turned into a double tragedy on Thursday afternoon, July 30, 2026 when San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies shot and killed an armed suspect who had just executed a kidnapped victim hidden inside the trunk of a car.

The fast-moving violence unfolded in a commercial shopping center parking lot, leaving shoppers stunned and a major suburban community cordoned off by investigators.

The incident began earlier in the day when law enforcement received an emergency broadcast regarding a violent kidnapping in progress. According to initial statements from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, automated license plate readers and aerial surveillance tracked the suspect's vehicle as it sped into Chino Hills.

Multiple deputy units intercepted the vehicle as it pulled into a crowded parking lot off Peytons Place. Realizing he was cornered, the suspect refused to comply with commands to exit the vehicle, initiating a tense, high-stakes standoff with heavily armed deputies who surrounded the car.
