JINGDEZHEN, China — China’s first domestically developed 800 kg-class heavy-lift electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, the AR-E800, successfully completed its maiden flight in Jingdezhen city in East China’s Jiangxi Province. The aircraft, developed by Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), achieved its first flight in clear conditions, marking a significant milestone in the country’s advanced aviation technology efforts.
The AR-E800 is AVIC’s first commercially oriented eVTOL platform designed to serve general aviation and industrial utility roles. Project engineers conducted extensive market research at the outset, identifying high-impact application scenarios such as mountainous power grid tower construction, infrastructure hoisting work, and fresh produce transport as priority use cases for the aircraft.
Built with a multi-rotor configuration and modular design, the AR-E800 aims to deliver flexibility, reliability, and ease of maintenance for commercial operators. Developers emphasized that the aircraft’s design was shaped directly by stakeholder input from across prospective operating sectors.
Commercial interest in the AR-E800 has already translated into confirmed commitments. At the seventh China Helicopter Exposition held in Tianjin in October, the AR-E800 secured 160 confirmed and intention orders. Orders came from companies involved in general aviation services, power system maintenance, and infrastructure engineering, highlighting the platform’s broad application prospects.
Industry observers noted that the strong order book reflects confidence in the AR-E800’s market positioning and industrial design, positioning it as a potential workhorse for heavy-lift and utility missions in China’s growing advanced air mobility ecosystem.
