Celebration Turns to Terror: Rogue Fireworks Hit Seventh-Floor Balcony in Southern Turkey, Injuring Two

ADANA, Turkey — What was intended to be a joyous public celebration turned into a scene of panic and chaos in Southern Turkey when a rogue firework barrage strayed off course, shooting directly toward nearby residential high-rises and striking onlookers watching from a seventh-floor balcony.

The incident occurred during an outdoor neighborhood festival late in the evening. As crowds gathered in the street below to watch the pyrotechnics display, several multi-shot fireworks canisters tipped or malfunctioned, launching high-velocity explosive projectiles into the façade of an adjacent apartment building.

Witnesses and residents were actively filming the colorful display when the celebration abruptly went awry. A rapid series of glowing projectiles veered away from the sky, slamming directly into the glass and railings of upper-story apartments.

Two individuals filming from a seventh-floor balcony were caught directly in the line of fire. The burst of heat and concussive force shattered balcony glass and ignited minor spot fires, leaving both spectators with blast-related injuries and minor burn wounds before they could retreat indoors.

Several critical key factors contributed to the severity of the incident, starting with misfired pyrotechnics where unsecured or defective launch equipment caused the fireworks to discharge horizontally toward the building rather than safely into the sky. The danger was heightened by the extreme proximity to dwellings, as the launch sites were situated dangerously close to densely populated residential high-rises. This sudden barrage sparked immediate panic and evacuation, triggering widespread chaos among crowd members in the streets below and upper-floor residents frantically fleeing smoke-filled apartments.

Medical teams and fire crews arrived within minutes to tend to the injured and secure the area. The two victims received immediate on-site treatment from paramedics before being transported to a nearby regional hospital for further care; both are reported to be in stable condition.

Local law enforcement immediately halted the event and detained the organizers to review permits and launch protocols. Municipality authorities have opened a formal inquiry into urban safety compliance, emphasizing that strict safety distances and certified personnel must be enforced during all public pyrotechnic displays to prevent future near-fatal accidents.
