This incident marks at least two dozen attacks in and around the strait since the conflict involving Iran began. Fortunately, all crew members aboard the unidentified northbound vessel were unharmed after the attack off Sirik, Iran, east of the strait.

Iranian officials maintain that they exert control over the strait, asserting that ships not affiliated with the United States or Israel can transit if they pay a toll, contradicting international navigation laws. While no entity claimed responsibility for this attack, it is particularly notable as it is the first reported since April 22, when previous assaults led to the seizure of several vessels.

The U.S. President Donald Trump has called for decisive action regarding Iranian threats in the region, having previously ordered military forces to "shoot and kill" small Iranian boats that pose a danger in the narrow waterways.

In a related development, Iran has issued a 14-point peace proposal aimed at resolving conflicts with the United States within 30 days.
