Canada will impose a temporary 25% surtax on imports of some wood cabinets and vanities starting immediately, Ottawa announced. The measure will stay in place for up to 200 days while the Canadian International Trade Tribunal investigates whether increased imports are threatening material injury to Canada’s domestic manufacturers. The tribunal is expected to issue its findings by Jan. 15, 2027 and recommend remedies if warranted. If the inquiry finds no injury, the surtax will end right away. Some countries are exempt.
