Canadian exports to China rose 30 per cent year over year to $21.74 billion in the first half of 2026, while total bilateral trade increased 3.6 per cent to $66.6 billion. Energy and minerals led the growth, accounting for 58.4 per cent of domestic exports, with energy shipments rising 81.8 per cent. The increase comes as Ottawa seeks to diversify beyond the United States amid escalating trade tensions. Improved relations with Beijing and expanded pipeline access also supported exports significantly.
