Canada’s ‘Expanded Scope’ Blocking Order Targets Existing and Future Pirate Sites

Canada’s Federal Court has issued a site-blocking order allowing rightsholders to extend ISP blocklists beyond named targets, including brands that “don't exist yet.” The order covers thirteen piracy brands, including 123Movies and FMovies, and uses an “Expanded Scope” mechanism to add additional sites later. Hollywood studios and broadcasters can request additions without a fresh court application, so long as they fall under the order’s agreed categories. The approach aims to keep pace with domain churn and brand remapping by pirate operators.
