Canada Not Seeking EU Membership in Any Capacity, Source Says

Canada is not seeking European Union membership in any form, a senior government source said, rejecting reports that Prime Minister Mark Carney was exploring associate status. Ottawa is pursuing closer economic, security and defense ties with the bloc, building on agreements already reached at a Canada-EU summit. The government says those efforts represent diversification rather than an application to join. Carney is expected to visit Europe soon, including France, while Canada prepares to host a bilateral summit with EU leaders.
