Canada Cancels Joint Bridge-Opening Event With U.S. After Trump Announces Tariffs

Canada canceled a planned joint celebration with the U.S. to mark the opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge between Windsor and Detroit, saying it would be “inappropriate” to proceed after threatened U.S. trade action earlier this week. The bridge is scheduled to open to traffic on July 27, but a ribbon-cutting event planned for July 24 with officials from both countries has been called off. Canada says it remains committed to opening the bridge and will instead mark the milestone with events held among Canadians.
