Activision will remove real news footage of the 2022 Itaewon crowd crush from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 after bereaved families and South Korean groups condemned its use. The game’s opening sequence included about 10 seconds of edited footage showing rescue efforts and victims, using it to portray casualties from a fictional North Korean invasion. The disaster killed nearly 160 people. Activision apologized, saying it did not intend to reference or trivialize the tragedy, and scheduled the removal for a November 12 update.
