Hundreds of young people confronted police on Friday at the edges of an anti-austerity march in Brussels. Masked rioters threw rocks and firecrackers, set fires and damaged buses, bikes and scooters. Police responded with tear gas and water cannons, and said about 20 people had been arrested, mostly minors. The union-organized march itself proceeded peacefully, drawing an estimated 30,000 to 50,000 participants.
