Brazilians Vote in Presidential Election Dominated by Lula and Bolsonaro

Millions of Brazilians voted Sunday in a presidential election centered on incumbent Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and conservative challenger Flávio Bolsonaro, son of former president Jair Bolsonaro. Lula seeks another term by emphasizing democracy, social programs, and sovereignty, while Flávio campaigns on crime, fiscal discipline, and his father’s political legacy. Neither candidate was expected to secure an outright majority, making an October 25 runoff likely. The contest reflects Brazil’s deep polarization and Latin America’s broader conservative shift and tensions.
