Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court gave Meta 24 hours to demonstrate that its platforms treat presidential candidates Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Flávio Bolsonaro equally. The order follows complaints from Lula’s campaign that his posts and profile were restricted while content supporting Bolsonaro received greater reach. The court also doubled Meta’s daily fine for noncompliance to one million Brazilian reals. Meta denies favouring either candidate, though it has acknowledged technical errors temporarily took some Lula campaign ads offline. The candidates are due to face a runoff vote Sunday.
