MANILA, Philippines — Security was forced to step in at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Sunday, August 9, 2026 after a heated argument between an Israeli tourist and an American citizen escalated into a physical brawl in the departure lounge of Terminal 3.
The altercation broke out near the international boarding gates around mid-afternoon as dozens of travelers looked on. Witnesses reported that a verbal dispute over queuing positions and personal space quickly turned aggressive, resulting in traded insults and a brief physical scuffle before airport police and Aviation Security Group (AVSEGROUP) personnel arrived to restrain both men.
Video clips shared on social media showed the two men shouting at each other before shove turned to strike near a coffee shop seating area. Bystanders and airline staff attempted to distance themselves as airport security guards rushed to separate the pair.
"It started as a loud argument about cutting in line at the security check," said a passenger waiting for a flight to Singapore. "Within seconds, they were yelling in each other's faces, and then punches were thrown. Security moved in fast, but it was a chaotic couple of minutes."
Both individuals were immediately escorted away from the boarding area and taken into custody at the airport police station for questioning and medical evaluation.
Airport authorities confirmed that both men sustained minor bruises during the incident, but no other passengers or airport personnel were injured. Bureau of Immigration officers were alerted to review the status of both foreign nationals.
In a brief statement, NAIA management emphasized its zero-tolerance policy regarding violent behavior within airport facilities: "The safety and security of all passengers remain our highest priority. Any individual involved in disruptive or violent conduct will face appropriate legal charges under Philippine law and potential deportation."
Authorities are currently reviewing terminal CCTV footage and taking witness statements to determine whether formal charges, such as public disturbance or physical injuries, will be filed against either party.
