The family of Indian sailor Rakesh Chauhan has alleged that several vital organs were missing from his body after it was returned to India following his death in Venezuela.
According to the Federation of Seafarers’ Unions of India (FSUI), the remains were repatriated without the family receiving an autopsy report or clear details from Venezuelan authorities at the time. FSUI called the situation “unacceptable” and demanded that authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding his death and the handling of his body.
FSUI says an autopsy was conducted in India after the family raised concerns, and that the medical findings showed the absence of multiple internal organs. The alleged missing organs include the brain, heart, and both lungs, along with other major organs such as the liver and kidneys. The union also claims organs and structures in the throat and air passages were missing.
The report also points to extensive stitching on the body and notes that determining the exact cause of death was not possible due to the absence of the organs needed for forensic analysis.
FSUI has urged government and diplomatic involvement—seeking intervention by the Indian Embassy in Venezuela and calling for the full post-mortem documentation, an impartial inquiry, and compensation for the family. As of the reporting, the allegations have not been independently verified by authorities, and there has been no official response from Venezuelan authorities or India’s Ministry of External Affairs addressing the claims.
