Dublin, Ireland— A young man was hospitalized after a late-night assault and stabbing incident in central Dublin on October 22, 2026.
The attack happened at 11:50 p.m. on a side street off Dame Street, near Temple Bar, an area busy with late-night crowds. Gardaí said two groups argued outside a takeaway. The argument turned physical. One man produced a knife and stabbed another man in the abdomen and arm, then fled toward the quays.
The victim, aged in his early 20s, collapsed outside a pub doorway. Door staff called emergency services and applied pressure to the wounds. Bystanders described blood on the pavement and people screaming and running. The street cleared quickly.
Gardaí and paramedics arrived in seven minutes. They found the victim conscious but bleeding heavily. He was treated on the pavement and taken by ambulance to St. James’s Hospital. Doctors said he required emergency surgery but is expected to survive. His injuries are serious but not life-threatening.
“This was a busy street with lots of people. The assault was fast, violent, and then the suspect ran,” said a Garda spokesman. “We have a number of witnesses and good CCTV from the area.”
Forensic officers sealed 40 meters of street with tape. They photographed blood trails, a discarded hoodie and a broken bottle. A knife has not been recovered. Officers searched nearby lanes with torches and a dog unit.
The area is covered by multiple council and private cameras. Gardaí have seized footage from three pubs and a shop. They are looking for a man in his 20s, dark clothing, last seen running north toward the Liffey.
Locals said late-night violence has increased as footfall returned after pandemic years. One bar worker said, “There are fights every weekend. This one was worse because a blade was involved.”
No arrest has been made. Gardaí have appealed for anyone who was in the area between 11:30 p.m. and midnight to come forward. The investigation remains open.
