BENGALURU, INDIA — Security agencies and local police in Bengaluru have launched an intense investigation following a mysterious explosion at an under-construction building on Jeremiah Road in Pulikeshi Nagar. The blast left two construction workers injured and triggered a high-level security alert across the area, prompting visits from specialized investigative units.
The incident occurred at around 2:30 PM on Tuesday, October 20, 2026 when two workers, identified as Allauddin and Suraj, were on the fourth floor of the unfinished structure. According to preliminary details from police sources, the workers had brought a suspicious bag found near the road up to the fourth floor. When they opened the bag, a sudden blast detonated inside.
Both workers sustained serious head and facial injuries from the blast force and debris. Emergency responders rushed them to Bowring Hospital, where they were admitted for specialized medical care.
"There has been a blast, which is all we can confirm at this moment. Samples have been collected from the site and sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for chemical analysis," official sources noted as investigators await forensic reports to determine whether the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) or an unstable chemical reaction.
Given the suspicious nature of the blast, high-level security protocols were immediately initiated. Teams from the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), the Internal Security Division (ISD), the bomb disposal squad, and Pulikeshi Nagar police personnel arrived on site to cordon off Jeremiah Road and collect forensic evidence.
Authorities have urged the public to refrain from spreading rumors while scientific analysis is conducted to pinpoint the exact source and nature of the explosive material. Police are reviewing nearby CCTV footage along Jeremiah Road to trace who deposited the abandoned bag at the location.
Meanwhile, local civic leaders and community representatives have expressed deep concern over public safety standards and the security of unattended construction sites throughout the city. Calls are mounting for stricter monitoring protocols, mandatory CCTV installations on commercial building projects, and enhanced police patrolling to prevent similar incidents in densely populated residential pockets.
