Binh Duong, Vietnam— One worker was stabbed to death inside a pub in Binh Duong Province late Friday after an argument that turned violent in minutes.
The incident happened at around 11:40 p.m. local time at a beer pub in Thuan An City, a factory hub north of Ho Chi Minh City. The victim, a 27-year-old garment worker, was drinking with co-workers. Witnesses said he clashed with another table over noise and spilled beer. The verbal exchange lasted less than a minute.
Police said the suspect, a 31-year-old construction worker, left the table, went to his motorbike, returned with a folding knife, and attacked. The victim was stabbed once in the chest. He collapsed on the floor. Staff called an ambulance. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Becamex Hospital.
Binh Duong Provincial Police detained the suspect at the scene. Patrons held him down until officers arrived. The knife was recovered. Officers said the suspect had been drinking heavily and had a prior record for public disorder in 2022.
The pub was crowded with workers finishing a late shift. Many factories in the area run until 9 p.m. "It was loud, everyone was shouting, then someone screamed," one waitress told investigators. Her account lines up with security footage police are now reviewing.
The victim had moved from Nghe An Province two years ago for factory work. His co-workers said he was not known for fighting. The pub manager said there were no security guards inside at the time, only two servers. The establishment has been ordered to close for inspection.
Police have opened a murder investigation. The suspect faces charges of intentional homicide. Under Vietnamese law, the charge carries a sentence of 12 to 20 years or life.
The pub remains sealed. Investigators are interviewing witnesses and reviewing CCTV.
