Bauchi Crackdown: 2 Arrested After Violent Attack and Obstruction of Police Officers

BAUCHI, Nigeria — Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested two men following an alleged physical attack on officers and the obstruction of a police team along Yelwa Road in Bauchi metropolis. The incident occurred at approximately 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2026, during routine enforcement operations under Operation Velvet.

According to police reports, patrol officers attached to the 'E' Division intercepted a motor vehicle driven by one suspect, identified as Friday (surname yet to be determined), who was traveling alongside a passenger, Yunana Ali. When officers requested standard vehicle documentation for inspection, the suspects allegedly turned hostile, refused to present credentials, and physically set upon the patrol crew.

The confrontation escalated rapidly as the duo physically resisted the enforcement team, with one of the suspects allegedly tearing the uniform of an Inspector of Police during the struggle. Officers at the scene subsequently subdued the individuals and transported them to 'E' Division headquarters for processing.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, confirmed that a preliminary investigation into criminal conspiracy, assault, malicious damage, and obstruction of public officers on duty is actively underway.

"The suspects allegedly refused to comply with lawful directives, became hostile, and resorted to physically assaulting the patrol team," stated Police Public Relations Officer SP Nafiu Habib. "The command will not tolerate attacks on officers performing their legitimate duties."

Condemning the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, characterized the attack as a deliberate affront to constituted authority and an attempt to undermine public safety initiatives.

CP Aliyu warned members of the public against taking the law into their hands or engaging in violence against security operatives, emphasizing that any grievances regarding police actions should be directed through established civilian oversight channels rather than physical confrontation. Both suspects are expected to face formal arraignment in court upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.
