Austria is urging the European Union to explore hosting Anthropic within Europe after the United States imposed curbs that restrict non-U.S. access to the company’s advanced models, prompting concerns that Europeans could be cut off from major AI developments. The initiative is reportedly being advanced through a letter to the EU Technology Commissioner. Austria argues that with legal certainty and access to markets and capital, Europe should help establish and host such capabilities rather than rely on decisions made elsewhere.
