At least 25 people in the United States are believed to have died from heat-related causes as a record heatwave scorched parts of the country, from the Deep South to the Midwest and the East Coast.

NBC News, citing New Jersey health official Dalya Eweis, reported that the number of heat-related deaths in New Jersey rose from 19 to 22 on Saturday. The report also said one additional heat-related death was recorded in Illinois.
