Astronomers Say They’ve Discovered the First Green Star

Astronomers have identified a white dwarf, WD J1330+6435, that appears chartreuse green in models based on how human eyes perceive its light. The star lies about 284 light-years away and has a surface temperature of roughly 4,000 degrees Celsius. Researchers say sodium in its atmosphere absorbs much of the orange, red, and yellow light, leaving a greenish appearance. This is not a green sunlike star, but an unusual white dwarf, a dense stellar remnant. Its color is predicted from its spectrum.
