Army chief General Sir Roly Walker says political leaders will soon hold a “frank conversation” with the public about preparing for war and accepting sacrifices for defence. He made the remarks to around 700 soldiers during a visit to Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire. Walker said the UK may need soldiers to fight and citizens must understand their role in national security. His comments come amid warnings about a more dangerous world and calls to increase defence spending. Preparedness matters.
