Armenia could formally apply to join the European Union in 2027 or 2028, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told Euronews. He described that timetable as realistic and called EU membership a strategic choice aimed at protecting the country’s democracy. Pashinyan said Armenians would ultimately have to choose between closer ties with Brussels and membership in Russia’s Eurasian bloc. He also rejected warnings that Armenia could become “the next Ukraine.” The potential application would mark a major step, but would not guarantee EU membership.
