ANGELES CITY, PHILIPPINES — Operatives from the Bureau of Immigration (BI) have arrested 14 South Korean nationals following a targeted raid on a suspected unauthorized back-office facility operating inside a residential condominium complex. The operation marks a significant step forward in the government's intensified crackdown on illegal foreign employment and transnational crime syndicates operating within the country.
The sweep was executed by the BI Intelligence Division’s Special Response Team (ID-SRT) in Barangay Pampang, Angeles City. Acting on precise intelligence reports, BI agents moved in on the location to uncover 13 Korean men and one Korean woman actively manning the unauthorized facility.
Upon breaching the facility, immigration operatives discovered the suspects actively engaged in what appeared to be a large-scale administrative and digital back-office operation.
"Our agents acted swiftly on validated reports that these foreign nationals were working in the country without the required Alien Employment Permits (AEP) from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) or the proper visas from the immigration bureau," BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said in a statement.
Because the individuals showed immediate indications of illegal employment, they were subjected to on-site immigration verification. None of the 14 suspects were able to present legitimate documentation authorizing them to engage in commercial or business ventures in the Philippines.
Following their arrest, the 14 nationals were transported directly to the Bureau of Immigration Main Office for booking, biometric registration, and records verification. They are currently undergoing appropriate immigration charges and deportation proceedings.
While the facility was framed superficially as a standard corporate back-office, Commissioner Viado raised concerns that such unauthorized setups are often covers for broader, more malicious unlawful enterprises. Authorities have launched an expanded investigation to determine if the group's network is linked to cyber fraud, online gambling, or regional transnational crime rings.
According to the BI, this intelligence-driven operation aligns directly with directives from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to aggressively combat transnational crime and strictly enforce the nation's immigration policies.
"The BI remains relentless in going after foreign nationals who exploit their stay in the Philippines by engaging in unauthorized business or employment," Commissioner Viado warned. He emphasized that the bureau is expanding its surveillance efforts, specifically targeting residential subdivisions, commercial hubs, and condominiums where illegal foreign-run operations try to blend into the background.
