All Six Victims Identified in Nantucket Medevac Crash

There is a particular sorrow that attaches to a medical flight that never arrives—a journey that began in hope, that carried a patient toward care, and that ended instead in debris on the water and a search that was eventually called off. On Saturday, October 3, a Canadian air ambulance flying from Bermuda to Boston disappeared off the coast of Nantucket. By Monday, all six people on board had been identified, and the Coast Guard had suspended its search. The patient and the family member accompanying her were a mother and her son from Bermuda. The four crew members were Canadians, employees of the air ambulance company. None survived.

The flight, operated by Latitude Air Ambulance, was a Gulfstream G100 that departed Bermuda shortly after midnight on Saturday. The patient, Marilyn Lavonne Bean, 66, was being transported to Boston for medical treatment. Her son, Sergio Wayne Lottimore, 41, was traveling with her. The crew consisted of Captain Philip Gregory Childerhose, First Officer Thomas Henry Farquhar, flight nurse Sarah Jane Paton, and respiratory therapist Jolene Beth Weir, all Canadian nationals. The aircraft was on final approach to Boston when it disappeared from radar.

The U.S. Coast Guard launched an extensive search, covering more than 4,400 square miles over 66 hours. On Saturday evening, crews located a debris field in the water off Nantucket, which was later confirmed to be from the aircraft. The depth of the water where the debris was found was approximately 80 to 90 feet, which officials said made recovery efforts difficult. On Sunday, the Coast Guard suspended its search, concluding that there was no longer any reasonable hope of finding survivors. Latitude Air Ambulance acknowledged the decision with "profound sadness," saying it must "face the heartbreaking reality" that the four members of its team, the patient, and the patient's family escort were presumed to have died.

The four crew members were remembered by their employer and their colleagues. Childerhose, a captain with Latitude since 2017, was described as "incredibly kind-hearted and extremely passionate about aviation." Farquhar, a first officer since 2024, was remembered as "a gentle giant who reflected Jesus' love" and "a safe place and a helping hand to all." Paton, the flight nurse, "devoted her life to caring for others" and was "selfless, hardworking, determined and full of life." Weir, the respiratory therapist, was a wife and mother whose "passion for helping others" defined her work.

Sergio Lottimore was a vice president at Hamilton Re, a Bermuda insurance firm, where he had worked for more than eighteen years. He was a graduate of Warwick Academy, the oldest school in Bermuda, which remembered him as "a school Prefect and an outstanding person" who would be "remembered with great fondness." His mother, Marilyn Bean, was traveling with him on the medical flight. The Bermuda Police Service has appointed a family liaison officer to assist their relatives. The investigation into the cause of the crash is being conducted by the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board, in conjunction with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada. The wreckage remains in the water off Nantucket. The questions of what happened and why remain unanswered.
