Afternoon Inferno: Devastating Fire Destroys Six Stalls at Urdaneta City Food Park

URDANETA CITY, PANGASINAN — A fast-moving afternoon fire tore through a popular local food park in Urdaneta City on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, reducing six commercial stalls to ashes and leaving multiple small business tenants facing devastating financial losses.

The fire broke out during the busy post-lunch hours when the food park was actively preparing for evening operations. According to initial reports from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Urdaneta station, the flames originated in one of the central cooking kiosks before rapidly spreading to adjacent structures.

Built primarily out of lightweight and semi-permanent materials designed for open-air dining, the interconnected stalls offered little resistance to the fire. The inferno quickly enveloped the row of businesses, sending a massive plume of thick black smoke visible across the city's commercial district.

Firefighters arrived on the scene within minutes of the initial alarm. Responders battled the intense heat and localized explosions, likely caused by small liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanks commonly used by food vendors. Emergency crews successfully contained the perimeter, preventing the flames from jumping to larger nearby commercial establishments.

While quick evacuations by staff and early patrons ensured that no serious injuries or fatalities occurred, the economic toll on the vendors has been catastrophic. Six distinct stalls—representing the primary livelihoods of several local entrepreneurs and their employees—were entirely wiped out.

Distressed store owners could only watch from behind police lines as their cooking equipment, digital point-of-sale systems, furniture, and freshly stocked ingredients were consumed by the blaze.

"We invested everything we had into upgrading our kitchen setup just last month," said one displaced vendor through tears. "With the stall completely gone, we don't just lose our daily sales; we lose our entire foundation. Starting over from zero is going to be incredibly difficult."

BFP arson investigators have cordoned off the site to conduct a thorough forensic analysis to determine the exact cause of the fire. Preliminary assessments point toward either an unattended cooking appliance or a faulty electrical connection within one of the food preparation areas.

In the wake of the incident, city officials are urging all remaining food park operators and market managers across Pangasinan to strictly review their fire safety compliance, ensure the proper storage of pressurized gas cylinders, and verify that functional fire extinguishers are readily accessible in every kitchen stall. Local trade groups are also reportedly organizing to discuss potential financial relief or temporary relocation options for the affected tenants.
