African Union Launches Continent’s First Credit Rating Agency

The African Union officially launched the Africa Credit Rating Agency (AfCRA) in Port Louis, Mauritius, on October 7. Its founders say African data, expertise and local economic context can help investors better understand credit risk. AfCRA is structured to operate independently and complement, rather than replace, established agencies. Its credibility will depend on transparent methods, sound governance and investors’ confidence in its ratings
