AFN Urges Ottawa and Provinces to Protect Treaty Rights Amid Alberta Separatism

The AFN has urged Ottawa and provincial leaders to protect treaty rights in the context of rising Alberta separatist sentiment. The organization says any attempts to change governance structures or negotiate future arrangements must respect existing treaty obligations. AFN leaders argue that Indigenous rights and legal protections cannot be treated as optional or subject to political bargaining. The call emphasizes consultation, recognition, and enforcement of treaty agreements regardless of constitutional debates. AFN representatives want clear assurances that Indigenous communities will remain protected under current legal frameworks.
