AfD co-leader Alice Weidel is set to present an overhaul of the European Union in Strasbourg on Wednesday. The plan would replace direct European Parliament elections with delegates appointed by national parliaments, reduce the European Commission’s role to administrative duties and limit the bloc’s budget and agencies. It would also allow Germany exemptions from some shared EU policies. AfD says it does not initially seek to leave the EU or eurozone, but would consider a membership referendum if reforms fail.
