Across Indonesia, Artificial Intelligence Finds New Ground as Data Centers Follow the Digital Tide

The digital world can feel almost weightless. Information travels across screens in seconds, while artificial intelligence appears to exist somewhere beyond the physical world. Yet behind every AI model are enormous buildings filled with servers, cables, cooling systems and power infrastructure. Indonesia is now becoming part of that physical landscape.

U.S.-based AI cloud infrastructure company CoreWeave announced plans to expand into Indonesia with three new data centers. The facilities represent the company's first data-center presence in the Asia-Pacific region.

Together, the three Indonesian facilities are expected to have 360 megawatts of contracted power. CoreWeave said it will own and operate the sites, while the facilities are expected to become operational in 2028.

The announcement arrives as artificial intelligence continues to increase demand for computing capacity. The larger and more sophisticated AI systems become, the more processing power is needed to train and operate them, creating pressure for cloud providers to expand their infrastructure.

CoreWeave's wider expansion illustrates the scale of that demand. The company has been investing heavily in data centers and specialized computing infrastructure as customers seek access to powerful systems capable of handling increasingly complex AI workloads.

For Indonesia, the development adds another piece to an expanding digital infrastructure ecosystem. Data centers require reliable electricity, telecommunications networks, cooling systems and facilities capable of operating continuously.

The importance of such infrastructure extends beyond the buildings themselves. Data centers can support cloud computing, artificial intelligence services and other digital activities, connecting businesses and users to computing resources closer to where demand is developing.

CoreWeave's Indonesian plans also show how the geography of artificial intelligence is changing. Computing infrastructure is increasingly spreading across regions where digital economies, connectivity and demand for advanced technology are growing.

The facilities will not immediately change Indonesia's technology landscape. Their expected operational date is 2028, leaving time for construction, infrastructure preparation and development of the systems required for large-scale computing operations.

For now, the announcement is a marker of direction. Three planned facilities and 360 megawatts of contracted power place Indonesia on CoreWeave's expanding map of AI infrastructure, with the first Asia-Pacific sites expected to become operational in 2028.
