Calling the flyby an “early Christmas gift” may sound whimsical, but the phrase captures a deeper truth. Opportunities like this are rare, unpredictable, and impossible to schedule. No mission budget could have planned such an encounter; it simply arrived.
When 3I/ATLAS departs, it will leave little behind except data and questions. But those questions — about how common interstellar visitors are, what they carry, and what they reveal — will shape astronomy long after the comet has vanished into the dark between stars.
